These are used by inserting the end of the tool in the hole and turning the adjuster clockwise until it reaches the hole ID.
These are used in the same fashion as snap gauges where you insert the tool at a 90° angle into the hole, adjust to a “slight drag” and remove.
The now expanded OD of the toll is measured with a caliper or micrometer to find the size of the hole ID.
