1965-1966 XLH

Battery, (2) small 6 volt batteries (66001-61A) were wired in series to make 12 volts.
Positive Battery Cable
- Interconnecting cable between the two batteries (70033-63).
- Battery to regulator (70245-65).
Negative Battery Cable (70213-65).

1967-1978 XLH

Battery
- 1967 XLH (66006-65), single large 12 volt battery.
- 1968-1978 XLH (66006-65A) single large 12 volt battery.
Positive Battery Cable
- 1967-E1975 XLH
  - Battery (+) to starter solenoid (70069-65A).
- L1975-1976 XLH
  - Battery (+) to starter solenoid (70097-75).
- 1977 XLH
  - Battery (+) to starter solenoid (70097-75).
- 1978 XLH
  - Battery (+) (70174-78).
Negative Battery Cable
- 1967-1972 XLH (70235-67).
- 1973-1978 XLH (70235-67A).

V-Twin Manufacturing (2012472): flat braided ground strap, 9.5“ long, (replaces HD 70235-67A), 4 gauge, 17/64” and 11/32“ hole sizes on heat shielded terminal ends. ³⁾

1970-1978 XLCH

Battery (66006-70), single small 12 volt battery
Positive Battery Cable
- 1970-1972 had no part# for the positive cable. The (+) wire was installed as part of the circuit breaker part#.
- 1973-1977 XLCH
  - Battery (+) to regulator B+ (70029-73).
  - Battery (+) to main circuit breaker on 1977-1978 has no part number.
- 1978 XLCH
  - Battery (+) to regulator B+ (70029-78).
  - Battery (+) to main circuit breaker on 1977-1978 has no part number.
Negative Battery Cable
- 1970-E1978 XLCH (70295-70).
- L1978 XLCH (70295-78).

Note: 1977-1978 factory wiring diagrams for both XL and XLCH show a second wire from the battery (+) to a main circuit breaker.
The main breaker (74599-77), later changed to (74599-77A), did not come with wires.
And it is only shown in the parts books for 1978 XL, XLCH.
The wire on the FSM diagrams does not have a part number in the parts books nor is it mentioned in them.
