- Differences between 1985-1986 frames:
- Different engines designs:
- 1985 was the last year of the Ironhead engine. 1986 was the first year of the Evo engine.
- Motor Mounts:
- The top front mount on 1985 was removable/adjustable. Top front mount on 1986-up engines is in a fixed position.
- The top center mount was redesigned in 1986. 1986-2003 top center mount brackets will all interchange (if only speaking of mounting to the heads and frame).
However, considerations will have to be made for the ignition switch, fuel tank petcock and possible horn locations depending on the year model of your motorcycle.
Click Here for more information. - L1984-2003 lower front mounts are the same.
- 1982-1990 rear motor mounts are the same and offset the engine 13/32“ to the left of the position from 1981< frames.
1991-2003 rear mounts are a cast-in part of the cases and not removable.
- The ignition module bracket changed between 1985 and 1986 frames.
- Front gas tank bolt holes changed location in 1986.
- Jiffy stand:
- L1984-1988 frames use the same jiffy stand mounted sort of close the lower (L) front motor mount.
- 1989-1991 frames use the same jiffy stand and the mount was moved rearward app. across from the oil pump dimple on the right tube.
- 1992-later frames changed jiffy stands again and the mount moved a little further rear than on 1991 frames.
- Front forks: 1984-1987 forks and axles are interchangeable.
